Purpose:

The LEAD Scholars Program at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit Catholic University, is accepting applications to teach one lower-division 2-unit Vocational Exploration Seminar course entitled:

LEAD 16: Mission Driven Vocations (Spring 2025)

In this course, students have the opportunity to explore the various types of professional positions in mission-driven organizations including non-profit and benefit corporations through coursework, site visits and guest speakers.

LEAD 18: Success in Life & School (Winter 2025)

In this class, you will learn about various high impact experiences, and take the steps to engage in them. This will include broadening your network, learning more about your field, applying to internship, exploring research positions and discovering paths to graduate school. Reserved for LEAD Scholars only and Sophomore standing or above.

LEAD 20: Exploring Health Care Vocations (Winter 2025)

This course will explore the wide range of opportunities available in the health care field in both the medical and public health sectors. It will also guide students through reflection on their career and educational plans and goals. Students will also develop strategies for accessing vocational and educational opportunities in the field including networking, interviewing skills, resume development, and graduate school exploration.

LEAD 22: Exploring Graduate School (Spring 2025)

This course will provide an exploration of graduate school. Students will gain insight in how to research and successfully apply to graduate school, as well as explore the graduate school experience. Students will be provided with an overview of graduate school options and guided in researching graduate programs in their specific areas of interests.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in a related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Additionally applicants should have at least 5 years of experience working a in the industry related field, with broad knowledge about training and career opportunities, and interest in working with first-generation students from diverse backgrounds.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Faculty responsibilities are specified by the Santa Clara University Faculty Handbook (sec. 3.6). Duties are included but not limited to:

Teaching one lecture section during Winter Quarter 2025 OR Spring Quarter 2025.
Winter 2025 Contract dates are: 12/16/24 to 5/31/25. First day of instruction: 1/6/25. Last day of instruction: 3/14/25. Grades due: 3/26/25
Spring 2025 Contract dates are: 3/1/25 to 6/30/25. First day of instruction: 3/31/25. Last day of instruction: 6/6/25. Grades due: 6/17/25
Fulfilling all responsibilities associated with the assigned course including:
Conducting all assigned class meetings and individual conferences with students;
Assigning and evaluating student work including exams and written assignments;
Holding weekly office hours on campus;
Submitting student grades to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline;
Administering numerical and narrative course evaluations to each class as assigned by the chair; and
Fulfilling other instructional or academic duties as my be assigned by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, or the Program Director or Associate Director.
